Innumerable Stars Letter 2019
Aug. 17th, 2019 05:44 pmHey there,
If you're reading this I'm guessing you got my prompts. I hope you're not disappointed! I am so looking forward to seeing what you write...it's very exciting!
I'm pretty easy-going as far as canon goes. What is canon? I love some of the ideas in HoMe and some ideas that Tolkien discarded (the first draft of the Fall of Gondolin, for instance, where Ecthelion was truly badass and killed all those Balrogs). Generally, I stick to the heart of what Tolkien created, if not to the letter. I love a well-crafted AU, and so long as it's not a purple-prose, sappy story, I like romance. I stick pretty close to LACE when writing, so a married elf is bonded fea to fea with his or her partner for eternity. They choose to have a baby and it takes both of them to create a child, meaning no unexpected pregnancies. In real life, clearly it doesn't always work this way, but this is Tolkien's world and I choose to honor his will in that.
Do Not Wants:
*slash and femslash
*explicit sex
*incest
*twincest
*mpreg
*graphic torture
*male bashing -- I don't like it when men do it to a woman and I don't like it vice versa. Equal to me means just that. And in the case of Elves, they're just as strong before having children (and one could argue a mother is one of the strongest forces in the world), so let's not bash males, okay? And yeah, I know there are jerks in life. But up to now most of them have been of the female persuasion in my life, not male.
*dystopian worlds/doom gloom with NO hope
Don't be offended by any of this. I'm being honest and appreciate any reader and writer also being equally honest and respectful. You don't have to agree. I'll respect your opinion. Please give me equal courtesy.

*friendship. This is a huge theme for me that I will never get bored with. I love strong friendships that overcome anything, and if the two characters start out not liking one another but end up as friends, that's even better. Yeah, it's cheesy, but I love it.
*brotherhood/sisterhood. I have a few friends who are closer to me than my blood siblings, so to me this is another huge love. I don't care if they're related or even the same race. Gimli and Legolas' friendship was one of the greatest things in LotR to me! Yes, platonic, but no less strong for not involving sex. I do believe men and women can be friends without sex clouding it all up.
*protective dad/husband and protective wife/mom It's just a thing for me. I love, love protective (NOT overbearing, not dictorial, not controlling) characters. If you aren't sure what I mean, I suggest browsing some of my Glorfindel stories. I write him as very protective of those he loves and that is what I mean.
*sisterhood There is just something about a close female friend that fills an empty spot, even when you love your mate with all your heart. We understand each other on a biological level that most men can't understand. Motherhood, hormones, the stress of meeting expectations...all the things we women go through and uphold and carry each other through is amazing.
*family fluff I love cute kiddos (not teeth-rotting tots, they can be terrors) and family dynamics. Love it when they're close-knit and still argue like cats and dogs but defend each other to the death.
*AU's -- okay, there's a caveat here. Not coffee shop, not GFIME, but Feanorians figuring out how to get to Earendil's ship to steal back the Silmaril? Yep! Or using blackpowder even though we only see Sauruman using it in the books? I think Curufin would have figured that one out, okay?
*humor -- this one is tough. I love goofy humor but not stupid. Witty, clever humor that isn't mean and doesn't hurt anyone is good. Examples of done too much? Elladan and Elrohir being mischievous and holy terrors.
If you have ANY questions, let me know. I would be happy to clarify anything or fill in any blanks I left. :) Thank you so much for writing one of my prompts and I look forward to reading the story!
Take care,
